Seven Steps to Getting Started with SCMetrix™

Interested in participating in the SCMetrix™ benchmarking project? The Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management (AHRMM) and the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University have put together a simple "Seven Step SCMetrix™ Implementation Plan" so your hospital can get started with the SCMetrix™ today!

  1. Attend a "Part 1: Learn More" Webinar - If you have not or are unable to attend a webinar, please listen to a recent recording of a past "Learn More Part I" session. Go to the "Learn More" section of scmetrix.org to request a recording.
  2. Appoint a Site Administrator - Every participating hospital should appoint a site administrator to oversee and champion the SCMetrix™ data collection and implementation process.
  3. Attend a "Part II: Getting Started" Webinar - To get started, your site administrator should plan to review a recording of this hands-on webinar. The session will describe in detail the phases and steps of the SCMetrix™ data collection process. You can listen to a recording of a recent webinar by selecting the following link. A copy of the webinar presentation can be downloaded here.
  4. Initiate your Toolkit - Your toolkit will guide your hospital's data collection.
  5. Register your Hospital - Site administrators should register their organization. It's easy to create an account, just download and complete the form with your hospital's profile. Many hospitals find that they must convert their data to SCMetrix™ format. To assist you in this process, you can listen to a recent webinar by selecting the following link. A copy of the webinar presentation can be downloaded here.
  6. Collect and Input Data - Once you've got your account established, the data collection process begins in two phases. In the first phase, the site administrator collects financial, operational, and supply chain structure data and inputs the data into the online system. In the second phase, practices and capabilities assessments occur by recruiting supply chain and clinicians to evaluate online the supply chain practice implementation in your hospital. More information to be provided after you complete the first phase.
  7. Establish your Improvement Team - Once you've got all of your data, it's time to bring together a collective team of supply chain professionals, senior managers, and clinicians to move from measurement into action. You can create online dashboarding accounts for your team to access the dashboards in real time. Use the benchmarks and practice implementation assessments to define a performance improvement plan.
